2011 Points Series

Point Series 2011:

We have taken all of the comments provided throughout the seasons to us by runners, as well as through our surveys and our own experiences as racers, and formulated a new and improved point system for the Steamboat Springs Running Series (SSRS). For age groups we will continue to point the series as we have in the past, in 10-year age increments. We realize that there will always be age groups that are more competitive and that those age groups may vary throughout the years. The SSRS is a non-profit, grass roots and volunteer running series, and we do not have the means for end of season age group or 5-year increment awards.

Overwhelmingly we have received comments about the inequality of longer races being pointed the same as shorter races due to length and difficulty, but we also know that some racers prefer the shorter 5K and 10K’s. In response we have decided to point only 1 race within each event, except perhaps 1 race in the middle of the season,  and to vary the distances that receive points. If your main goal for the season is to win the SSRS we suggest that you run those specific distances, but what we hope is that you will instead run the races and distances that you feel passionately about and prefer to run.

We love our series participants; you are the backbone of the series. What we hope is that you will find a great variety of distances to participate in, if you choose to keep track of your points and compete in the series. We believe this will be an exciting season and may shake things up a bit!

• Steamboat Marathon: 26.2
• Hayden Cog Run: 8M
• Craig Duathlon: Solo racers only
• Mountain Madness: 10K and Half Marathon
• Spring Creek: 9M
• Howelson Hill: 8M
• Mt Werner: 12M
• Continental Divide: 16M
• 10K@10,0000 ft: 10K
• Emerald Mountain Trail Run: 7M
