STARS Snowshoe Stampede and Round Up

What: This spring-time fundraising event for STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports ) is a unique opportunity for participants to snowshoe race a longer distance or a short sprint on the Steamboat Ski Area, with great prizes and a fun atmosphere as part of the Springalicious celebration weekend.

• STARS Snowshoe Round Up (2.4 miles / 3.8 Km) – Snowshoe race on mapped trails of the Steamboat Ski Area. This course is a loop, 687 vertical feet and runs along packed snow trails in a beautiful forested area of the Resort. Start and finish line is in front of the slope side entrance to the Steamboat Ski & Sport retail store, across from the base of Christie Peak Express chair.  Awards will be given out for top men and women finishers, as well as for the best crazy spring STARS Snowshoe Round Up costume!  Local adaptive snowshoers from Horizons are invited to participate on a short course track as part of the Round Up event.
• STARS Snowshoe Stampede (100 yard dash) - Dash up the hill in the same tracks as the Smartwool Cardboard Classic. Run up one side, scramble over a berm, and stampede down the other side.  This event is a fun and amusing way for people to participate in the fundraiser without working up the long distance sweat!  Awards will be given out for top men and women finishers.

When: Saturday, April 10, 2010 8:30 am for STARS Snowshoe Round-up & 11:30 am for STARS Snowshoe Stampede

Where: Steamboat Ski Area Base – Steamboat Springs, CO

Registration: Pre-register online at www.runningseries.com for $25.  Registration fee covers participation in one or both events.

Race Benefits: These races are a fundraising event with proceeds supporting STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports) the local adaptive recreational program of Steamboat Springs through participant registration fees, branded product sales, raffle tickets and donations. The event is MC’d by a local radio celebrity and is a fun time to be had for all, with refreshments for the racers in front of the STARS office in Gondola Square. Snowshoes can be rented from the Steamboat Ski Area Information booth as well as sporting goods retail outlets all over Steamboat Springs.
