2012 Emerald Mountain Trail Run

What: 12K (race is actually about 7.5 miles long) Scenic trail run on beautiful Emerald Mountain. The course for the Emerald Mountain trail run will be a tour of Emerald mountain starting at the base of Howelson Hill. The course will meander north west then through aspen lined singletrack up to the top of Emerald Mountain. The course will then follow singletrack downhill and cross country to the base of Howelson Hill.  

When: Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

Race Distance: Approximately 7.75 miles. This year we are also offering a ~12k mile hike and a 1/2 mile kids "Jog for Jenna" fun run in hopes that we can include a wide variety of participants!

Elevation gain: ~ 1500 ft with most of the gain coming in the first 1.5M.

Where: The race starts and finishes at the Howelson Hill complex in the grassy park next to the tennis courts.

Registration: Pre-register online or at Ski Haus in Steamboat Springs until Friday at noon.  Day of registration from 7:30 - 8:15 am Saturday.  Register early to ensure a shirt. Kids fun run registration will be the day of the race and kids will pay their age. Bib pickup is the day of the race.

What you receive: Great Mountain Hardwear tech tee for the 1st 90 registered runners, delicious food from Freshie's, prizes for winners and raffle entry for prizes. Please register early for this event. End of season party to follow.

*Start time: 8:00 am for the Walk/Hike, 9:00 am for the Run 

Additional information: Runners please be respectful of passing hikers on the trail and hikers please pull to the side to allow runners to pass. If wearing headphones please have volume low enough so that you are aware of your surroundings and can hear someone trying to pass you on the tight single- track sections. Awards and raffle will start no later than 10:30 am.

Approximate Course: Start by the yurt and run behind Olympian, up Robbie's to Mile Run to Blackmere. Up to Larry's via Blackmere, take Larry's up and over through the meadow and head across and pop out on Blackmere again for a short time. Run up Blackmere to the Quarry and down Lil Moab to Lupine. Lupine to the Bluff's and take a big loop on the Bluffs down to the start. 

 

This race will serve as the end of the pointed season where series winners will be announced, please be present to pick up awards.

Proceeds from this race will benefit the Yampa Valley Autism Program in memory of our friend Jenna Gruben Morrill.

 

We encourage everyone to come out the following weekend for Run Rabbit Run to support the 50 mile runners, volunteer, cheer them on or run yourself!
