
Spirit Challenge
The Spirit Challenge offer three different distances, a 10k, 5k and Kid’s Fun Run. All races are on paved roads, except for the 5k which has a short section on trail. The Kid’s Fun Run is an 800m run consisting of 2 laps around the Steamboat Springs Middle School track. The Spirit Challenge is a long standing race in the Steamboat Springs Running Series, and gives runners a chance to get those feet moving after a long winter in the Yampa Valley. Come out and support this fun local race!

Registration Opens January 1st 2023
Register online until May 26th 6:00 PM. On-site registration will be available from 8:00 to 8:45 at the Strawberry Park Middle School. You can register here!
Registration Fees:
- 5k: $25* until April 27th; $30* through May 26th; $35* on race day
- 10k: $40* until April 27th; $45* through May 26th; $50* on race day
- Kids Run: Free
Racers 17 & under: TBD
T-Shirt: $15 (Must be ordered by May 17th)

No Refunds. Proceeds from this race will be donated to the Yampa Valley Autism Program. All proceeds will be made as a donation to the YVAP in the name of Jenna Gruben Morrill.
Packet Pick-Up:
There is no packet pickup on Friday. All race packets may be picked up on race day beginning at 8:00 AM

Course Description:
The 5k run is a scenic, rolling road route. The race begins at the Steamboat Springs Middle School Parking lot. Runners will take a left on Amethyst Drive and continue on Strawberry Park Road until they reach a T in the road. From there, turn left onto N. Park Road. Turn left at Stehley Park onto the Butcherknife trail. Stay right when trail splits. Continue onto McKinley Street, then turn left on Maple Street. Turn left on Amethyst Drive and follow back to the finish line.
** Please note- for 2023 the 5K will be rerouted due to HS graduation activities on Maple Street. The 5K will follow the same route as the 10k and will be an out and back.
The 10k is a rolling out and back through Strawberry Park. The race begins at the Steamboat Springs Middle School Parking lot. Runners with take a left on Amethyst Drive and continue on towards Highland Road for turnaround.
The kid’s is an 800m run consisting of two laps around the Steamboat Springs Middle School track.
Aid Stations: One aid station provided at 10k turnaround only.
Pets: Leashed pets welcome.
Awards and Post Race:
Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place males and females (No AG awards)
Every participant is automatically entered in our prize raffle, which will follow the awards ceremony.
