Sancy Jo Shaw brought her passion for life “beyond four walls” to everyone she met. The Sancy Shaw Memorial Fund has been established to continue that impact, reaching people for positive change.

As a wife and mother, Sancy lived life to the fullest, with her husband Brett and four children, Wyatt, Mason, Jaxon and beautiful little girl, Charlee.

Tragically on Christmas Eve, 2018, Sancy and Charlee were hit by a drunk driver on Interstate 70. Charlee was airlifted to Children’s Hospital, Colorado, but Sancy did not survive.

Sancy wore many hats: avid runner, fly fisher, skier, snowboarder, soccer player, and lover of all things outdoors. She was well known in the Steamboat Springs and Clark communities and really found her calling as a Science and English Language Arts teacher at North Routt Community Charter School.

Cut-offs: The 16M race has over 3,500 ft. of elevation gain, with the high point on the course at 10,420 ft. Rough estimates for the 50K are 5,000 ft. of elevation gain, with much of the distance covered at or above 10,000 ft. The safety of our runners is our number one concern. Due to the popularity of this race and the remoteness on parts of the trail system, we have in the past enforced a strict 4 hour cut-off rule for the 16M race.  This year we can extend that cutoff to 5.5 hours since we have an added longer race. The 50K cut-off time will be 8 hours.

Special Considerations: In an effort to put on a more sustainable trail running race, we have eliminated all cups from both race courses. Be prepared to carry your own water on the course and to refill your device at the aid stations.

Driving Directions/Parking Information:

Parking is recommended at The Knoll parking lot near Steamboat Ski Area base.  With the Start & Finish located at Steamboat Ski Area base this year, no shuttles will be necessary.

Awards and Post Race:

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place males and females (No AG awards)

Every participant is automatically entered in our prize raffle, which will follow the awards ceremony.

Friends and Family: Encourage your friends and family to come out and cheer you on.  Food, snacks, and refreshments are offered for participants only.

Pets: Leashed dogs are welcome on the 16M course only.  Please be courteous at the start when the field is in close proximity on narrow single track.

Weather Policy: We have updated our weather policy to include the monsoons of 2014.  Therefore, we will run in rain or shine or snow but we will not run on the trails when conditions threaten the safety of our runners and/or when the runner’s feet threaten the delicate trail system that we operate on.  Decisions to cancel the race will never be taken lightly and will only be a last resort.
